AQUATOTS – BABIES & TODDLERS
In the AquaTots classes babies & toddlers will learn to become confident in the water. As an adult assisted class parents (or adult caregivers) are completely involved during the session. It’s a special moment between you and your infant. This class promotes parents and babies happy interactions. Each class is a fun and vibrant one with an abundance of energy. These classes teach basic technique through the medium of games, songs, colorful toys and many laughs and jokes. AquaTots classes help babies & toddlers have an earlier head start in their swimming journey.
A baby & toddler’s water confidence is built upon the assurance of knowing that they can make progress while having the assistance of someone inherently close and supportive in every sense of the word, be it encouragement, praise and positive feedback. Every baby has the potential to become a water baby, and the sooner a child discovers the freedom of buoyancy and underwater swimming, the more relaxed and independent the child will become. During the AquaTots class parents are guided to hold the child as little as possible using techniques such as baby surf, safety position and little harbour. During the class we encourage the integration of movement, eye contact, speech and song while the child is held in water. Relaxed holding is encouraged so that babies gain an increasing sense of security and freedom in their own time until they are ready to take off away from the parents’ arms, preferably without swimming aids but with the use of buoyancy aids such as foam woggles (noodles). Swim classes for young children have shown to benefit and aid with growth milestones, more so even as they grow up into their preschool years, showing positive results in various areas of assessments.
Research shows children who swim at a very young age:
- An excellent way to physical, social & emotional development.
- Improve heart and lung function.
- Precious bonding session with parents.
- Better oral expression, literacy, numeracy & mathematical reasoning compared to the normal population.
* Research done by Griffith University, Australia on 7000 babies.
Does the AquaTots class work with my Helper?
This class can also include your helper. In a safe space overseen by the coach, your child and helper will have fun in the water together, also growing community and connections.
It can be tough to squeeze all of your little one’s activities into the week, especially if you work full-time.
Here’s a handy class that might help, while giving your child and helper the chance to have some fun together this one is especially for helpers to jump in the pool with the little ones, where together they learn crucial safety skills and have a great time!
